Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Key Worker ProgramThe FASD Key Worker provides information, advocacy and support to families with children and youth, ages 0 -18, where Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) or other similar neurodevelopmental conditions are suspected, or where there is a confirmed diagnosis. Assistance throughout an FASD assessment can also be provided, as well as ongoing parent-to-parent support. Fetal Alcohol Spectrum DisorderFASD is a brain-based disability resulting from fetal exposure to any amount of alcohol during pregnancy. The effects vary from one person to the next, and may include difficulties with learning, memory and sensory integration. Affected children/youth may also be very loving, creative, loyal and determined to succeed. Early identification of the disability allows for successful interventions and the best chance for a child and family to receive the help and understanding they need. Referral ProceduresParents and caregivers are encouraged to contact the FASD Key Worker directly to access this service. Referrals are also accepted from the community with parental consent. The FASD Key Worker Program is funded by the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
