Family Preservation Program

The Family Preservation Program is a short-term, intensive home/community based service with the goals of keeping the family safe, preventing unnecessary placement of a child in substitute care, and improving family functioning so the behaviours that led to the crisis will be less likely to re-occur.

The Family Preservation Program provides services that promote the safety of family members and works to enhance parenting capacity and family functioning.

Program Objectives

  • In consultation with the child protection worker, Family Resource Association staff and family, determine specific and measurable objectives targeting problems and behaviours that precipitated a crisis.
  • Provide education and training in child development and behaviour-management techniques.
  • Encourage families to build positive relationships with their natural and extended support systems.
  • Assist families to obtain various community resources including the food bank, shelter, clothing and recreational opportunities.
  • Provide services that are sensitive to the family's values, beliefs and culture.
