Supported Child Development Program

Who provides Child Development Services?

The Early Intervention Team includes the Infant Development Program, Physiotherapy, Speech/Language and Occupational Therapy and Supported Child Development.

  • Community inclusion.

Infant Development Program

Offers home-based family-focussed early intervention services for children, birth to 3 years.

  • The Infant Development Consultant considers all areas of development such as motor skills, language, social, play and learning skills.
  • Also offered is the loan of toys and books about child development and parenting issues.

Referrals

We accept referrals from:

  • parents
  • doctors
  • public health nurses
  • community agencies.

Early Intervention Programs

Therapy

Physiotherapy, Speech/Language therapy and occupational therapy for children, birth to school entry, provided in the home, child-care or community setting and at the health unit.

  • The Physiotherapist has a particular interest in your child's physical abilities such as rolling, crawling, sitting, walking, climbing and jumping.
  • The Speech Language therapist provides support with speech development, listening and understanding of language. Additional areas include stuttering, feeding issues, voice disorders and hearing impairment.
  • The Occupational therapist helps children become independent in everyday tasks such as playing, feeding, dressing and hand skills. Adaptive techniques or equipment may be recommended.
  • Supported Child Development Program promotes inclusive childcare for children ages 0-12 with identified needs providing access to daycare, pre-school or after school programs.

Who May Benefit from Our Program?

Children from birth to school entry who:

  • are experiencing delays in development
  • present with risk for possible delays
  • have a known challenging condition.

Family members who wish:

  • assistance in learning how to further their child's development
  • help in accessing community resources
  • to connect with other parents.
