Parent Support Program

The Parent Support Program is available to parents requiring current information with regard to child development, family communication and parenting techniques.

The program also provides assistance with self-evaluation and rehearsal of positive parenting skills. The Parent Support Counsellor assists parents in identifying and achieving their goals by building on parental and family strengths.

Parent Support Program may provide information and support to individual parents, families as a whole, or in groups Topics include:

  • How to build self-esteem in children
  • How to support children through a separation/divorce
  • How to handle sibling rivalry
  • How to reduce parent stress
  • How to reduce children's sleeping problems
  • How to effectively communicate within the family

Many other parenting skills, which foster optimal child development.

  • Support with daily routines and challenging behaviour
  • Information and assistance in fostering links with schools and other community resources and supports
  • Parent groups on a variety of topics based on community needs.

Who the Program is for:

  • Any person(s) caring for children 0-19 years of age who require additional support in their role as parents/caregivers.

Referral Procedures

Referrals are accepted from the Ministry for Children and Family Development, parents and other community agencies. The Family Resource Association offers this program free of charge.

The Parent Support Program is funded by the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
